Eugeniusz Gowkielewicz, Marta Bogusz Reda, Poland 030152
The Jury awarded the grand prize to an entry which puts forth a very clear moral appeal: let’s embrace genuine amber; let’s throw away surrogates and fakes!... The Jury appreciates the courage and strong message conveyed by the entry, which manifests an idea and a concept, rather than being a design as such. The members of the Jury support the moral appeal of this entry, which demands that we take special care of natural amber, this gift of nature, especially in light of the flood of cheap materials which practically undermine the entire industry. Today it is vital that we give a positive response to such an appeal. The strong message: throw out the fakes!... is at the same time a call to choose the right way… The graphic form of this message manages to avoid banality, which is another of this entry’s assets. The risk of using a graphic illustration in a radically simplified way and of juxtaposing it with a hot slogan turned out to be the right decision, as it strengthened the power of the message. |
Joanna Bielak, Łódź, Poland 455152 The entry presents a double countenance in an intriguing, impish way: it is non-jewellery and yet remains jewellery … The design has the asset of a certain “multi-functionality” – the bracelet can be used as an insulating holder for a cup of hot coffee, which we so often drink while on the run in the world today. The Jury appreciates the acknowledgement of an interesting functional asset combined with a sociological observation: this shows the artist’s sensitivity and openness to the challenges of today. The aesthetics here is fully adequate to the function that has been assumed, which is another strong suit of this design.
The Jury decided to award three o honorary mentions which refer to what the topic of NON-JEWELLERY brings to mind:
